American Version Of Kinder Eggs Get FDA Approval

 

 

It has been banned in America since 1938 when the FDA stopped manufacturers from placing inedible toys inside confectionery products, but finally the young sweet tooth children of America can enjoy something similar.

Kevin Gass, a New Jersey businessman, has been given FDA approval for his Choco Treasure. Based on the popular toy-filled chocolate egg, which is so loved throughout Europe, Asia, Australasia and South America, Gass, who is co-founder of Candy Treasure LLC. has worked closely with the FDA and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to produce a safer alternative.

Manufactured by Ferrero, the toys inside Kinder Surprise eggs are only deemed safe for children above the age of 3 as some of them come in small parts that need to be fitted together – something which the CPSC believes could be choking hazards for younger kids.

Working around these restrictions, Gass has created a bigger sized egg which could fit already made child-friendly toys, such as action figures, mini playing cards, 3D puzzles and spinning tops. The trade off is that getting to the surprise has become a bit more difficult as the the company have created a special yellow capsule with a visible ridge. The capsule actually separate the chocolate into two halves and needs to push down, once the chocolate has been consumed to break it apart.

In order to gain FDA approval the product had to go through a vigorous series of tests including bite testing, flammability testing, impact testing and small parts testing.

It is a move which is sure to delight chocolate lovers and authorities alike as Kinder Eggs have long been a product people have tried to smuggle in to America. Last year according to Canada’s National Post, around 60,000 of these chocolate treats were confiscated at the U.S.-Canada border.

Gass too is pretty excited.

‘This is the biggest kids’ candy in the world, and we think it tastes great. It’s fun, and we spent quite a bit of time to make it safer and also as much fun as the original’ he told ABC News.

Chocolate Camera On Sale For $500

 

 

Last time around we told you about the Couple Who Sculptured A Giant Chocolate Car, so continuing on that theme we thought you would be interested in this chocolate camera.

 

For reasons best known to him San Francisco based artist Hans Chung has created this incredibly detailed replica of a Canon DSLR camera completely out of chocolate.

 

Weighing in at a hefty 5 pounds the Edible Canon DSLR even comes equipped with a chocolate battery grip and a camera lens that has also been crafted from chocolate.

 

A limited edition this ‘Chocolate Camera’ is available to buy from Chung for only $500.

Couple Sculpture Giant Chocolate Car

 

 

It must have been painstaking work but Philadelphia based duo Jim Victor and Marie Pelton have created this awesome life size sculpture of the number 18 Toyota Camry ‘M&Ms’ car.

Apparently this piece of food art was created by moulding layers of melted chocolate, cocoa and cocoa butter onto a frame to form the exterior of the race car.

I am not sure how long it took to make but it is certainly very impressive!
