Original ‘Willy Wonka’ Kids To Reunite At Wizard World Chicago Comic Con

13 Aug

It will be a “scrumdiddlyumptious” gathering when the five child stars from the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory reunite 40 years after the release of the now classic film at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, August 11-14. Peter Ostrum (“Charlie Bucket”), Paris Themmen (“Mike Tee Vee”), Julie Dawn Cole (“Veruca Salt”), Denise Nickerson (“Violet Beauregard”) and Michael Boellner (“Augustus Gloop”) will appear together for an extremely rare reunion, joining more than 500 celebrities and artists at the event, which will bring together thousands of fans of all ages to celebrate the best in pop-fi, pop culture, movies, graphic novels, comics, toys, video gaming, television, sci-fi, gaming, original art, collectibles, contests and more.

The original 1971 film, based on Roald Dahl’s book and screenplay, told the story of five children who won the opportunity to tour the fictional, world famous Wonka Chocolate Factory after finding a “golden ticket” in packages of Wonka chocolate. The poor but extremely good-hearted Charlie is joined by the other four, whose quirks have made them among the most memorable characters ever as the film has achieved cult status. All-time greats Gene Wilder, who played the eccentric Wonka, and Jack Albertson, who portrayed Charlie’s beloved Grandpa Joe, starred in the feature roles.

“This is a truly unique opportunity to meet the five child actors who helped make Willy Wonka such a classic movie,” said Gareb Shamus, Wizard World CEO. “It is these kinds of once-in-a-lifetime events that make Wizard World shows so interesting and exciting for fans of all ages.”

The five will be among such other distinguished celebrities at Chicago Comic Con as Patrick Stewart, Bruce Campbell, Christopher Lloyd, Morena Baccarin, Felicia Day, Anthony Michael Hall, Academy Award Winner® Lou Gossett Jr. and James Marsters.

Willy Wonka Caps an Unusually Chocolaty Anaheim Weekend

2 Aug

Willy Wonka Caps an Unusually Chocolaty Anaheim WeekendAnaheim does not make Parliament’s “Chocolate City” roll call, but that would be an apt name this weekend for the box that holds Disneyland. “Chocolate: The Event” features three days of sweet-making to pimp “Chocolate: The Exhibition” that’s up through Sept. 11 at Muzeo Museum.

Capping the festivities is Sunday evening’s Grand Gala Chocolate Awards in UltraStar’s UltraLuxe theaters at GardenWalk. Afterwards, grab an Everlasting Gobstopper, ditch Veruca Salt and snake around Oompa Loompas for the 40th anniversary screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory introduced by the 1971 film’s director, Mel Stuart.

Events benefiting Muzeo Museum, whose “Chocolate: The Exhibition” aims to continue the space’s mission of presenting creative programming, kick off with an invite-only gala tonight at Bruno Serato’s White House Restaurant.

Yeah, mine must’ve got lost in the mail, too.

But we all can attend Saturday’s “Chocolate: The Event” at Center Street Promenade. It’s billed as “Southern California’s premier chocolate, wine, coffee and music festival.”

The awards begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory scheduled to roll at 8 p.m. in the luxurious theater on GardenWalk’s top level at 321 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim. Warner Bros. is promoting a “40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition” of the Gene Wilder movie that’s coming out soon on DVD and Blu-ray.

Besides Stuart, Sunday night’s guest list includes: Adam Gertler, host of Food Network’s Kid in a Candy Store; Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie; Andrew Christian of Bravo’s The Fashion Show; actress Chelsea Tavares, who appears in the upcoming Fright Night remake; Emmanuel Delcour of Bravo’s Chef Academy; Jill Davie of the Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef; comedian Judy Tenuta (a.k.a. “The Love Goddess”); teen actress Kylee Russell; Manouschka Guerrier of Food Network’s Private Chefs of Beverly Hills; Meg Hall of the Food Network’s Extreme Chef; Michael Costello of Bravo’s Project Runway; Susan Irby, “The Bikini Chef” of Bikini Lifestyles; and former and current cast members of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County Lynne Curtin and Tamra Barney respectively.
