The rather delicious sounding Mocha Coconut Dark Chocolate Bar was created during a recent Lindt EXCELLENCE Recipe Challenge which challenged students at the Culinary Institute of America to develop a new dark chocolate bar. Featuring a mouth watering selection of rich coffee, delicate coconut flakes and of course Lindt’s premium EXCELLENCE chocolate the new creation apparently invokes a smile inducing combination of intense and familiar flavors.

The new bar was the brainchild of Meredith Walter of East Northport, New York. A Culinary Institute of America Baking and Pastry Arts student Walter’s competition effort drew on the memory of a special birthday cake she made for her mother and her uncle in which she combined both mocha and coconut.

‘As a chef, I love cooking with robust flavors, and the new Lindt Mocha Coconut dark chocolate bar exemplifies a great flavor combination and delicious sensory experience’ said the celebrity chef and restaurateur Michael Symon, who was one of the contest judges.

‘I’m proud to be a judge in the contest with Lindt and my alma mater, The Culinary Institute of America, and to taste each of the students’ hand-crafted dark chocolate bars’.

Walter’s is understandably believed to be delighted at the win.

Next US President to be decided by Chocolate Lovers vote?

1 Nov

Will Barack Obama win the next US Presidential Election on the back of votes from chocolate lovers?

As the US Presiential Election race hots up a French confectioner has come up with a novel way of predicting the winner by offering chocolate lovers the chance to vote with their taste buds.

Luxury chocolate maker ‘Paris Chocolat’ has announced the launch of a new presidential election chocolate box. The box contains a delicious selection of dark chocolate medallions imprinted with the faces of both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

The chocolate company’s owner, Eric Monterrat, confirms ‘The box is 100 percent chocolate. The photos are in the likeness of the presidential candidates, made entirely of chocolate’.

Paris Chocolat is also running a poll whereby customers can ‘vote’ for their favorite candidate through the consumption of their preferred candidate.

A similar chocolate box was introduced for the French presidential elections earlier this year and interestingly enough the results of the chocolate poll were a close prediction to the actual election outcome.

At the time of writing the Paris Chocolat poll shows a clear lead to President Obama who leads Romney by some 72 percent. In the real polls, just three weeks out from the US presidential election, support for Obama and Romney is much closer.

Chocolate inspections by US enrage Swiss chocolatiers

11 Oct

Buy Bulk Swiss Chocolate Online at Moo-Lolly-Bar AustraliaSwiss Chocolate Makers are enrage by inspections from US custom officials on their much cherished confectionery for bioterrorism or radioactive threats. In what has been received as an extremely unpopular move factories in Switzerland have no choice but allow these checks to take place otherwise will they be banned from selling their products in the USA.

At least 21 Swiss chocolate factories and around 18 dairies have had to allow inspections of their work, German business journal Handelszeitung reports.

‘The fact that a foreign authority is involved in our Swiss businesses is unseemly’ says Daniel Bloch, of Chocolates Camille Bloch.

Despite the opposition to the move most chocolate manufactories remain keen to sell their chocolate in the profitable US market.

Yet according to the manufacturers the planned examinations went well beyond health issues or such things as sales, ownership, employees and the sizes of company buildings.

‘We ask ourselves, what is the real reason for the FDA inspections’ said Jacques Gygax, director of the Swiss dairy association Fromarte.

The answer is the new America’s Food Safety Modernization Act, which was signed by President Obama in April 2011, which instructs for the checking of all foods coming from abroad, in the country where the products are produced prior to export. Before the Act, examinations were most typically carried out at the US border.

The act was introduced on the back of advice from The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which suspects imported food could be contaminated chemically or even in a radioactive way.
