Vosges to add lower-priced chocolate bars

24 Apr

Vosges ChocolateVosges Haut-Chocolat founder Katrina Markoff is launching a lower-priced chocolate brand for the mass market, the company has confirmed.

Hitting Chicago Whole Foods and Cost Plus stores last week, Wild Ophelia bars come in a variety of American flavors unusual to chocolate bars, such as barbeque potato chip, peanut butter banana, beef jerky and Southern hibiscus peach. With a suggested retail price of $3.99, the bars are about half the price of Vosges bars, which sell for $7.50 in Vosges boutiques and $8 at Whole Foods.

The products will soon be available at Walgreens Upmarket in Chicago, Whole Foods’ Midwest region, most REI stores and Wegmans on the East Coast.

According to the company, Markoff developed the Wild Ophelia brand to offer all natural chocolate and artisan ingredients to a broader audience. The official launch is slated for the Sweets & Snacks Expo, to be beginning at McCormick Place May 8.
