General Mills voluntarily recalls Fiber One bars

25 Oct

General Mills Inc. is voluntarily recalling chocolate flavored Fiber One 90-Calorie Chewy Bars 5-count boxes because they may contain bars with peanuts.

People who are allergic to peanuts can have severe, sometimes life-threatening reactions to the nut.

The company said that chocolate peanut butter flavor bars, individually wrapped and bearing correct labels, were mistakenly put in 5-count boxes labeled as chocolate flavor Fiber One 90-Calorie Chewy Bars.

General Mills did not disclose the exact number of packages that are affected by the recall but said it encompasses only a single day’s production of the product.

There have been no reports of allergic reactions or illnesses stemming from the peanut butter chocolate bars placed in chocolate bar boxes, the company said.

This recall includes 5-count boxes with the following “Better if Used By” date printed on the top of the box: 19MAY2012BV. General Mills said consumers who are allergic to peanuts, or who are unsure if they are allergic to peanuts, should not eat Fiber One 90-Calorie products from 5-count boxes with that date printed on the top.

Consumers can contact General Mills at 1-800-231-0308 for a replacement or a full refund.
